Volunteer with Community BlueScapes to help reduce flooding on roads in Barnes

11 December 2023

The local Community BlueScapes project team is hosting volunteer days this December to help reduce flooding on Rocks Lane and Station Road by directing and filtering rainwater off the road and into Barnes Common.

Community BlueScapes is imagining a better future and how we can create better places for us now.

The new drains along both Rocks Lane and Station Road in Barnes are designed to move rainwater into the common and reduce flooding on the roads. Community BlueScapes is increasing the amount of water on the Common, making it better able to cope with drought conditions in the future.

In August, with the help of local school children, they started filling up the trenches with gravel to help the new ditches last and make it safer for people enjoying the Common. Now it’s your turn.

Come and spend a morning, or an afternoon, making a difference. You’ll learn about how you can:

  • Tackle the impact of climate change
  • Reduce the risk of flooding
  • Improve people’s lives
  • Increase biodiversity and wellbeing at the same time
