Resident Action Pack launched to help tackle climate emergency

Richmond Council has launched its first Climate Emergency Resident Action Pack, an easy-to-navigate guide for local people looking for guidance on actions they can take to reduce their impact on climate change as well as lower the impact that climate change can have on our borough’s people, homes and spaces. 

It is full of simple, everyday actions and links to local groups, services and resources available.

The Resident Action Pack explores each pillar of the Council’s Climate Emergency Strategy and Action Plan and aims to provide clear, up-to-date information about how residents can work together with the Council and other local groups and organisations, to achieve the greatest collective impact in limiting climate change and responding to its effects.

Cllr Julia Neden-Watts, Chair of the Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sports Committee, said:

“As we continue to implement our ambitious plans to become a Net Zero Borough by 2043, we are committed to providing residents with the information they need to take action on climate change and work together with us to find shared solutions to reducing our collective carbon footprint.

“Small changes in our everyday habits and behaviours can make a huge difference in lowering our carbon emissions. But, with so much information available and so many areas to consider, it can be difficult to know where to start and what convenient support is available to help. That’s why our Climate Change team has worked hard to compile our comprehensive Action Pack for residents, to help serve as that starting point and make connections to others who are already championing sustainability work in Richmond upon Thames.”

The Resident Action Pack dives into themes like air quality, energy efficiency, community projects, nature and biodiversity, ability to respond to extreme weather patterns, waste and recycling, and the additional benefits acting on climate change can bring in saving residents money and improving their health and wellbeing. It also includes a glossary of terms to help unpick common climate change jargon.
