Battle litter along the Thames with '2 Minute Litter Pick' boards

31 August 2023

In partnership with Habitats & Heritage, we're making it easier for residents and visitors to keep the Thames towpath tidy and reduce plastic entering the river by adding more 2 Minute Litter Pick boards.

The first 2 Minute Litter Pick board is located at Bamber Steps, and has now been joined by four brand new boards placed at strategic points along the River Thames at Orleans House Gallery, Hammerton Ferry and Cambridge Gardens.

While many people are concerned about the damage caused by litter and plastic entering our oceans and want to help, it's often challenging to know where to start. Now, everyone can contribute to making a difference.

All that passers-by need to do is borrow a litter pick and reusable bag from one of the boards and take two minutes to pick up litter, then empty it into the nearest bin and return the equipment to the board.

Inspiring others to join the #2minutlitterpick campaign is key to its success. Taking a picture and sharing it on social media with the hashtag #CleanRichmond will encourage other to do the same.

Orleans House Gallery, custodians of two of the new boards, said: "We'd like to thank Habitats & Heritage for including us in this fabulous initiative. The new boards support us in the delivery of the Ecosystem Plan for the woodland gardens, bringing together members of our community to help care for this special place."

The other two new boards are hosted by Hammerton Ferry, near the Thames Path just out of Orleans Road, and the Magnolia Tree Café at Cambridge Gardens.
