Broomfield House School - SS26

The School Street is proposed along Princes Road between Broomfield Road and Kew Gardens Road junctions.

Current status

We are reviewing the results of the pre-trial consultation that was held between 16 June and 13 July 2025.

Read the pre-trial letter sent to residents, businesses and the school community inviting feedback on the consultation (10 June 2025).

Hours of operation

The School Street will operate Monday to Friday from 8.15 to 9am and 3 to 3.45pm, during term time only.

How it works

Signs notify drivers of the School Street operating times. The School Street signs will still be displayed during school holidays and half term breaks. It is not a statutory requirement to remove, cover or close them.

Shared ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras may also enforce the restrictions in future.

Exemptions

During the operating times people walking, scooting, using wheelchairs, mobility scooters and cycles (including adapted cycles) are able to enter the School Street.

Motor vehicles are prohibited during the operating times, subject to a limited number of exemptions. Find out more about School Streets exemptions.

More information

In September 2024 the Transport and Air Quality (TAQ) committee (Item 18), approved a paper to commence Richmond’s Phase 5 School Streets.

Next steps

After this consultation is complete, comments will be reviewed alongside monitoring data (traffic counts and travel to school surveys) and a delegated decision will be made whether to proceed with a trial.

If a trial is agreed this will be implemented under an experimental traffic order and the consultation will open for a further 6 months allowing further comments whilst the scheme is live.

Further monitoring will be undertaken and compared against the baseline data which ill be reported alongside the consultation results to the Transport and Air Quality Committee who will decide if the scheme is removed, amended or made permanent.

This process can take up to 18 months and residents, businesses and the school community will be notified of the final outcome.

If made permanent, we will install our enhancement gateway features which have been designed to make all School Streets more visible, uniform, recognisable and compliant.
