Local Development Scheme

The Local Development Scheme (pdf, 349 KB) (LDS) has two key purposes:

  • It provides a starting point for the local community to find out what the Council's planning policies are for the borough and sets out the current documents which form the Local Development Plan.
  • It sets out the detailed work programme for the preparation of the Local Plan documents over a three year period, including timetables, which tell people when the various stages in the plan preparation will be carried out.

The latest timescales for the production and progress on the documents is as follows:

  • Informal consultation on vision, objectives, spatial strategy and issues, alongside consultation on Sustainability Appraisal (SA) Scoping Report: Spring 2020
  • Call for Sites consultation: Spring 2020
  • Pre-publication consultation on draft plan and consultation on the draft Local Plan and SA Spring 2021
  • Publication consultation on the Council's version of the Local Plan and final SA report: Spring/early summer 2022
  • Submission of the Council's final version of the Plan to the Planning Inspectorate: Autumn/winter 2022
  • Independent Examination in Public: Spring/summer 2023
  • Adoption of the Local Plan: Spring 2024
