Strawberry Hill Golf Club open day

If you’re new to golf or are thinking of joining a golf club, Strawberry Hill Golf Club is holding an open day on Monday 6 May from 10am to 4pm.

All are welcome to join the fun social event which will include free beginners coaching and nine holes of golf. There will also be a bbq from 12pm.

River Crane litter pick

Last weekend, 30 volunteers of all ages took part in a litter pick along the River Crane.

Organised by the Ibn Battuta Scouts in collaboratoin with SWLEN and FORCE, the litter pickers collected 148 glass bottles, 213 plastic bottles, 649 cans, and 10 bags of general waste between Hounslow Road and Chertsey Road.

The litter pick was organised as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

Kindly Leave the Stage

The Richmond Shakespeare Society presents Kindly Leave The Stage, a comedy exploring themes of love, fidelity, reality and the stage.

Life as a Richmond Park gamekeeper

For 30 years, John Bartram worked as a gamekeeper at Richmond Park, ensuring the welfare of its world-famous deer. In a conversation with radio and TV presenter Adrian Mills, John will draw upon a treasure trove of memories to offer a fascinating glimpse of his life in the park.

The talk will take place on Monday 13 May. Tickets are £10 and include entrance to WWT London Wetlands Centre.

Funk the Ruils II

Funk the Ruils returns for another year! A great night to celebrate 50 years of the finest dance tunes across the genres from 8pm on Saturday 1 June, at the Teddington Constitutional Club.

Tickets are £15 and can be booked online.

All proceeds will go to Ruils, a local charity that supports children and adults with disabilities and the elderly to live independently.

British Art: the interwar years

A new exhibiton is coming to Richmond Old Town Hall this May, exploring the history of British art.

British Art: the interwar years will include exhibits such as The impact of WWI – art, memorials and Stanley Spencer, Constructivism and Abstract Art in 1930s Britain and The impact of the Second World War; War artists commission.

The exhibition will be open every Friday from 3 May to 31 May between 11pm and 12 noon.

Tickets cost £12 per session.

Parenting talk with Home-Start Richmond

Home-Start Richmond are hosting a parenting talk on social media, mental health and resilience on Thursday 6 June at Hampton Prep and Pre-Prep school. Dr Kathy Weston will help parents be prepared for their children using social media, signposting them to the very best evidence-based tips and ensuring they leave the talk feeling more knowledgeable and better able to help their child navigate the digital world.

All proceeds will go to local family support charity Home-Start Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow.

MNDA presents Steve Hutchinson in concert

The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) presents an evening of original melodic rock and pop performed by Steve Hutchinson. Steve Hutchinson and his band (plus special guests) will be performing songs from his new album at the Hammond Theatre on Saturday 11 May 2019 starting at 8pm.

All proceeds from this concert will be going directly to MNDA.

Give bowls a go in 2019

Have you always wanted to give bowls a go?

If you do, three of the borough's bowls clubs will be hosting open days in April and May 2019.

  • Hampton Bowls Club, in Carlisle Park, will be hosting open days from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 20 and 27 April, and on Saturday 4 and 11 May 2019. Contact Hugh for more information on 020 8818 0036.
  • Strawberry Hill Bowls Club, in Radnor Gardens, will host their open days from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May 2019. For more information, call on 07951 753 062 and get in touch with Kerry Heal.
  • And Teddington Bowls Club, in Grove Gardens, will host theirs from 10am to noon on Sunday 12 May, and from 6 to 8pm on Wednesday 15 May 2019. Beginners and juniors are welcome too. Get in touch with Gerrard on 07517 524 144 for more information.

All equipment is provided. Flat soled shoes or trainers must be worn.

Hammersmith Bridge closed to traffic

Hammersmith and Fulham Council have informed us that they have had to urgently close the bridge to all traffic because of safety concerns. 

Weekly safety checks have revealed critical faults. Please avoid the area.

Pedestrians and cyclists can still use the bridge, but it is closed to cars, and buses are on diversion.

World Book Night 2019

Tuesday 23 April is World Book Night, a national celebration of reading where books are given out across the UK with a focus on reaching those who don’t regularly read.

Richmond libraries will be sharing the joy of reading by donating over 60 books to people who don’t regularly read across the Richmond, Twickenham and Teddington areas. Many of these will be donated in partnership with other organisations such as SPEAR.

23,000 wipes removed from Barnes shore

A record 23,000 wet wipes were cleared from one stretch of the Thames foreshore in Barnes last month. 160 volunteers from Thames21 filled a total of 473 bags of wet wipes within two hours!

Thames21 is the voice for London’s waterways, working with communities to improve rivers and canals for people and wildlife.

Ham Open Gardens

Ham Open Gardens will take place on Sunday 19 May from 1pm to 5pm, giving the public a unique opportunity to go ‘behind the garden wall’ of a selection of the most beautiful private gardens in Ham.

Organised by the Ham and Petersham Association (HPA), the event will include lots for all the family to enjoy, including a barbecue, homemade teas and music from the excellent Salamander Saxophone Quartet.

Tickets are £11 each or two for £16.50 (free for under 16s). Proceeds will go to Home-Start, HPA and other local causes.

Photographic Society Exhibition

Visit the Richmond and Twickenham Photographic Society Annual Exhibition at the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington this week.

The exhibition will include fine art prints and projected digital images, plus the Royal Photographic Society’s Visual Art Group touring exhibition and work by students of St. Catherine’s Girls School in Twickenham.

Admission is £2 and ends on Monday 22 April 2019.

Station accessibility decision labelled "very disappointing"

None of the borough's stations have been selected for funding in the latest round of the Access for All programme, despite applications being submitted for Kew Gardens, St Margarets and Hampton Wick stations to get accessiblity upgrades.

Cabinet Member for Transport, Streetscene and Air Quality, Cllr Ehmann has labelled the decision "very disappointing".

Join the Bank of England citizens' panel

The Bank of England are looking for members to join their citizens’ panels. This is a new initiative to listen to people’s views and experiences of every aspect of the economy including jobs, pay, the cost of living and housing.
