Join the Big Knit Get-Togethers

This is a chance for knitters or crochet-lovers to get together and help make tiny Innocent Smoothie hats to help raise money for isolated older people in the borough.

There are two events taking place across the borough:

  • Tuesday 5 March, from 12 to 3pm, at the eBay offices in Richmond
  • Tuesday 19 March, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, in the cafe area at Richmond Adult Community College (RHACC)

Schools encouraged to get pedaling

Local schools are encouraged to get active and take part in the Sustrans Big Pedal 2019, from the 25 March to 5 April. This will be open to all primary and secondary schools, including SEN schools.

The most active school communities will enter into a daily prize draw, prizes will include equipment and accessories.

Final week to apply for a fuel grant

Grants of up to £85 per household are now available from the Council to protect residents who are at risk from living in fuel poverty.

Download the Fuel Grants application form from the Council website or pick up a hard copy from the Civic Centre in Twickenham or Council libraries across the borough. The deadline for applications is the 1 March 2019. Please note, applications received after the closing date will not be processed. Successful applicants will not be notified of the outcome until after the closing date.

Community Money Mentor Course

Want to learn ways to manage your money? Learn about personal budgeting and save on your bills weekly shopping! Richmond AID are running a 12 week Money Advice course starting Friday 1 March from 1 to 4pm.

The course will be held at the Richmond AID, Disability Action and Advice Centre, 4 Waldegrave Road, TW11 8HT.

Talk on Air Quality

Mortlake with East Sheen Society are presenting a talk on the topic of Air Quality talk on Monday 11 March at All Saints Church Hall from 8pm.

Professor Roger Mason, the chair of Kew Society will explain where pollution comes from and how the overall air quality in the borough - particularly East Sheen and Mortlake, can affect your health.

New Theatrical Workshop in Twickenham

Dramatize Twickenham are offering a series of new dance and creative movement classes for individuals aged 16+ with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

Local volunteers receive funding to bring the wild back to East Sheen

The Conservation Volunteers have received funding from Richmond Parish Lands charity to improve the pond on the common, replace the small bridge, make improvements to the hazel coppice area and create a new amphibian friendly environment.

Charity Quiz night

You are invited to the Greenwood Community Centre Quiz night on Friday 8 March at 7pm!

All funds raised will go towards revitalising and developing the Greenwood Community Centre, and Hampton and Hampton Hill Voluntary Care services.

Swan ruffles feathers in Barnes

A visiting swan caused quite the commotion in Barnes this week.

Onlookers were in awe as they witnessed the swan chewing and pecking at a car before moving towards a local bus. All traffic was halted to a complete stop while residents tried to lure the fearless creature off the road. Eventually, a local hero saved the day and directed the swan back to safety!

Name White Hart Lane Footbridge

There is only one week left to submit name suggestions for the borough's newest footbridge at Whire Hart Lane level crossing.

Over 200 suggestions have been made to date! Submit your entry by emailing campaigns@richmond.gov.uk or tweeting @LBRUT using the hashtag #NameWhiteHartLane before the competition closes on Thursday 28 February.

Apply for 33% off Business Rates

Independent retailers are invited to apply for a third off their business rates bill for 2019/20 and 2020/21, as part of the Council’s Pink Envelope campaign.

Nearly 1,000 pink envelopes have been sent out containing a letter urging eligible shops, restaurants, cafes and other high street businesses to apply for a share of a new funding pot made available by the Government to help rejuvenate local high streets.

Young talented musicians take to stage in Twickenham

Thirteen young acts took to the stage last Friday night, 15 February, for the Heatham House Talent showcase.

The event was organised by Achieving for Children and saw young people aged 11 to 19 years performed an eclectic selection of music from afro-beat and rap to rock, soul and RnB.

We donate seized goods to charity

Counterfeit clothes, shoes and toys seized by Merton Council and Richmond Council have been donated to the charity Sports Traider.

Items including rugby scarvess, boots, trainers, jewellery and toys will be rebranded by Sports Traider, which gives disadvantaged young people access to sports equipment.
