The Council has launched a campaign to get Secretary of Education, Damian Hinds MP to address the shameful underfunding of special needs education in the borough.

Free information evening for EU citizens

A free public information evening for EU citizens living in the borough will be held at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College, Parkshot TW9 2RE from 6pm on Tuesday 5 March 2019.

Gold medals for catering students at Salon Culinaire

Congratulations to four of Richmond upon Thames College’s (RuTC) catering students who participated last January  in the annual chef competition Salon Culinaire in Birmingham, winning two times gold as well as one bronze medal and one merit.

Whitton Day Nursery wins National Award

Congratulations to the team at Whitton Day Nursery who were voted as the Nursery of the Year - South in the National Nursery Recognition Awards for 2019, held in Leicester on Saturday 26 January.

Brexit Contingency Planning

Residents and business owners of all nationalities have been assured the Council stands ready to support them as the Government’s chaotic Brexit preparations raise concern for local authorities.

We have already taken a number of steps including writing to our adult social care providers to ensure they have Brexit readiness plans, creating advice pages for businesses, and commissioning Citizens Advice to offer information and support to EU nationals in the borough.

Petersham Nurseries charity fundraising banquet

Join Petersham Nurseries for an inspiring evening on Thursday 14 March, in memory of Filippo Corsini - a young Italian who tragically died in a London cycling accident in October 2016.

Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Children Boards are hosting a conference for all churches and faith group leaders who play a vital role in the lives of many children, young people and adults. Responding effectively when someone comes forward to share concerns or disclose abuse is key to all safeguarding.

Youth Hate Crime event

The Hate Crime Forum in Richmond are hosting a day event at York House on Wednesday 20 February for young people aged 11-18 years. The event intends to provide an understanding of what hate crime is, what it is like to be a victim, how you should report it and what to do if you witness a hate crime.

Gas works disruption around Barnes High Street

Major gas mains replacement works taking place in Barnes High Street are planned to begin on 15 February and will continue for approximately 10 weeks.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place throughout the works, which will be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm daily to optimise traffic flow. Residents are advised that their gas supply may be affected and there may be a need to temporarily turn-off supply for a short period during this time.

Recycle your old or broken electrical items

From Monday 11 to Friday 15 February you can drop off your small electrical items at the Civic Centre in York Street, Twickenham. This includes alarm clocks, toys, kettles, hair dryers and more!

You can also donate electrical items at nine of the borough's libraries.

Residents can now register for the Richmond and Twickenham Freegle community!

Freegle is a UK organisation that aim to increase reuse and reduce landfill by offering a free online service where people can give away and ask for things that would otherwise be thrown away. Whether you are an individual, local organisation, sports club, school or business you can benefit from joining Freegle.
