Access free support to stop smoking for good this Stoptober

5 October 2022

Did you know that you are four times more likely to stop smoking for good if you use a local stop smoking service?

Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death and illness in the UK. Every year around 78,000 people in the UK die from smoking. There are an estimated 12,110 adults who smoke in Richmond upon Thames. The Council is reminding smokers that it can help them stub it out for good through its free Stop Smoking Service.

The Stop Smoking Service offers confidential face-to-face and/or telephone advice and support from specialist advisers.

You will be offered a dedicated specialist adviser who will offer you:

  • Tips on managing withdrawal symptoms and coping with smoking triggers
  • Regular carbon monoxide checks
  • Accurate information on what to expect when trying to quit and how to deal with difficult situations
  • Access to stop smoking medications and guidance on using these
  • Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)

Over the past year, the service has helped 250 Richmond upon Thames residents quit smoking.
