Arts Richmond launches radio drama writing competition in memory of Colin (Tony Archer) Skipp

19 May 2021

Arts Richmond is pleased to announce its brand-new radio drama competition dedicated to the memory of local actor, Colin Skipp, known to his many fans as Tony Archer.

Colin Skipp performed the role in BBC Radio 4 soap The Archers, and was a much loved character for 46 years. His widow, Lisa, and daughter, Nova, are very pleased with this initiative and hope to make this competition an annual event.

Local residents, groups and students are urged to submit their 15 minute radio dramas by Wednesday 30 June 2021. Each entry will be read by an experienced local reader and four will be selected for final judgement.

Simon Nelson, BBC Writersroom's London Development Executive, has kindly agreed to arrange for professional feedback for each of the four finalists' scripts. The four finalists will then submit their recorded dramas to the Arts Richmond panel for final adjudication by an industry professional.

The organisers are hoping that many Richmond upon Thames residents and students will take part in this unique competition which could earn them the Colin Skipp Radio Drama Cup and a £100 cash prize.

The final four recorded scripts will be aired on the Arts Richmond YouTube channel and the cup awarded by Lisa and Nova Skipp on Sunday 7 November 2021 at 3pm.
