21 March 2022
Residents and businesses in East Sheen, Teddington and Hampton will soon be able to hire Cargo Bikes by the hour and can benefit from two hours of free usage per day.
The Community Cargo Bikes scheme, support by Richmond Council, will allow businesses and residents to hire top of the range Cargo Bikes for usage to suit their individual needs. Residents and businesses who hire the new cargo bikes will receive their first two hours of usage free of charge every day with Richmond Council encouraging residents to take active travel options for more journeys.
Cargo bikes are bikes that are specially made to carry more than just their rider and have been specially designed to hold both extra passengers such a kids or carry bulky items. The bikes can be used by residents to carry food shopping, purchases from garden centres, items destined for Townmead Recycling Centre, office items, tools, pets, and, much more.
Cargo bikes are ideal for local businesses looking to deliver goods locally to their customers, making journeys between businesses and suppliers easier and often quicker while helping to reduce emissions from business operations.
Residents and businesses can register their interest to use the new Cargo Bikes.
Those that register will be contacted to book a face-to-face introductory session which includes a tutorial of the OurBike app to locate the electric cargo bike and reserve it for use, a test drive of the bike, securing the bike and everything else you need to know.
