We aim to deliver a professional and caring service through our sympathetic, competent and trained staff. Our priority is to ensure that all funerals are organised and conducted in a dignified and orderly manner, as we understand that a meaningful funeral is an important part of the grieving process.
We regret to inform you that due to the coronavirus outbreak our annual memorial services of thanksgiving and remembrance have had to be cancelled this year.
In accordance with The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (No. 4) Regulations 2020, our cemeteries are closed to members of the public, except for:
Please do not visit our cemeteries unless for these purposes.
We have implemented the following changes:
The safety of our customers, community and staff is our first priority, and our principal focus is to ensure we are able to continue the essential work of burials during the crisis. Restrictions will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so.
The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 came into force on 26 March 2020. The Regulations were made in response to the serious threat to public health posed by the spread of coronavirus. Under the regulations and powers conferred by the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984, cemeteries which have a crematorium will close to the public during the emergency period, allowing access for funeral services only.
Unless otherwise directed by government, the borough’s cemeteries which do not have a crematorium on site will remain open. The principal function of our Cemeteries Service is the provision of funerals, and to deliver services with care, dignity and sensitivity. We recognise the importance of access to open spaces for exercise during the pandemic, but expect members of the public who use our cemeteries to behave appropriately and respectfully. Group gatherings will not be permitted.
