RISE provides a varied programme of activities for people of all ages with special educational needs and disabilities.

RISE Canoe summer holiday dates

Football

Supported by Kew Park Rangers (KPR), a local Charter Standard Community Club, footballers aged 8 years + practice a variety of techniques and skills to develop their agility, balance and coordination. KPR encourage players to join in competitively and socially. A team play in the Surrey Football For All League.

Parents/carers are welcome to stay, watch or take part.

Fusion Junior Dance

These weekly, fun and lively dance classes are led by Tom from Combination Dance Company and are ideal for developing gross motor skills, flexibility, self expression and confidence.

Age 5 to 9

Parents/carers are encouraged to take part when required so that the child gets the most out of the class. The exercises are planned with this in mind. Please wear comfortable clothes and suitable footwear.

Multi Sports

A fun introduction to the basics of a variety of sports, including basketball, cricket, hockey and tennis, all adapted to suit every age and ability. The session develops fundamental movement skills; running, hopping, throwing, catching and jumping. These skills give athletes the confidence to take part in the sports offered, adding an element of competition when appropriate.

RISE to Shine Swimming

This is part of our RISE to Shine project, training athletes aged 8-18 years who live or go to school in the borough to compete for Richmond in the London Youth Games. It is a stroke improver swimming group where swimmers use two exclusive lanes. The group is welcoming and personalized to each swimmer. Swimmers need to be able to swim a 25m length of the pool unaided.

Parents/carers are welcome to stay and watch.

  • Dates: Tuesdays, 4 September to 18 December (not 23 October). 
  • Time: 6 to 6.45pm
  • Age: 8 to 18 years

Trampolining

Using one bed, gymnasts develop body awareness and core stability whilst learning technique. Gymnasts are encouraged to use a variety of movement to express their own individual personalities. A maximum of 6 participants per session each getting 10 minutes on the bed.

  • Course cost: £84 (£70 with a Richmond Card). Pay weekly at the sports centre reception to book in advance by calling the centre as places are limited to 6 per week

Wheelchair basketball

Supported by Richmond Knights Basketball Club, athletes aged 6-16 years learn how to play wheelchair basketball using fun games to teach technique. The session is adapted for all abilities using specialist equipment. Sports wheelchairs are supplied. Opportunities for competitive games are available.

  • Dates: Thursdays, 6 September to 20 December (not 25 October)
  • Time: 6.30 to 7.45pm
  • Age 6 to 16 years
  • Venue: Waldegrave School, Fifth Cross Road, Twickenham, Middlesex, TW2 5LH
  • Course cost: £7 per session
