Mental health support
For many people the current pandemic situation may result in feelings of anxiety, loneliness or depression. Mental wellbeing is fundamental to our physical health, relationships with others, our work and education and enabling us to achieve our potential.
It is normal and okay to feel upset, anxious or confused during the current coronavirus pandemic and it could be affecting your mental health. It is important to reach out and get help if you are feeling this way. Support is available for whatever you are going through.
Below is a list of support services and resources available to residents:
24/7 Mental health support line
If you need mental health and wellbeing support in a crisis you can call the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust 24/7 Mental Health Support Line on 0800 028 8000. The Mental Health Support Line offers emotional support and advice to people who are affected by urgent mental health issues, at any time of the day or night. It is open to everyone: both children and adults of all ages, and to people who haven’t previously accessed mental health services.
Please only attend A&E if you have an emergency with your physical health. The Mental Health Support Line can help and direct you to the right service for your mental health needs.
Children and young people’s mental health support services
If you are concerned about children and young people’s mental health, a range of services are available from Richmond and Kingston Safeguarding Partnership, including access to online counselling.

Good Thinking is a digital, free mental wellbeing service provided by Thrive London, Public Health England and the NHS. It promotes proactive self-care for the four most common mental health conditions: anxiety, low mood, sleeping difficulties and stress. Use the clinically validated self-assessment tool to get a better understanding of what you’re going through, helpful resources and if necessary, relevant treatment options.
NHS wellbeing webinars
A collection of NHS Coping Well During COVID webinars are available if you are feeling anxious about coronavirus and how it is impacting you, your loved ones or your work. The 60-minute sessions will guide you through ideas and tools to support your mental health and wellbeing in an evidence-based and interactive way.
Richmond Wellbeing Service
Richmond Wellbeing Service offers a range of free and confidential talking therapies and specialist support for adults. Visit the Richmond Wellbeing Service website or give them a call on 020 8548 5550.
Samaritans provides a freephone helpline 24 hours a day to support people going through difficult times. Phone 116 123 or visit the Samaritans website.
Richmond Borough Mind
Richmond Borough Mind is rooted in the local community and exists to meet local mental health needs. Through various projects, staff and volunteers, they provide high quality, individually tailored services so people can live full lives and be connected to other people in their communities. - The Government has published guidance on mental health and wellbeing during coronavirus. Guidance includes tips on looking after your sleep and managing difficult feelings, as well as advice for groups with specific mental health needs.
- You can follow a simple, 20 minute training course by Zero Suicide Alliance to help understand the signs to look out for and the skills required to approach someone who is struggling and might be at risk of self-harm

- Shout is the UK’s first 24/7 text service, free on all major mobile networks, for anyone in crisis anytime, anywhere. It is a place to go if you are struggling to cope and you need immediate help. Text Shout to 85258
