Release Date: 10 September 2020
All residents are invited to a webinar on 17 September on topics relating to Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), hosted by Richmond and Wandsworth’s sexual health service providers, charities Spectra and METRO.
The presentation and Q&A session will address the theme of this year’s Sexual Health Week (September 14 to 20) – ‘Get your RSE in gear!’.
Although the focus of this year’s Sexual Health Week is on young people, the webinar is open to all as a broad range of related topics will be discussed that are relevant to parents, teachers, health professionals, youth workers and volunteers.
The webinar will run from 3 to 4pm and be hosted via Zoom. It is a free event, but you do need to register your place to attend.
Cllr Piers Allen, Chair of the Adult Social Services and Health Committee and the Health and Wellbeing Board, said:
“Last year the Department for Education published the first new guidance on Relationships and Sex Education for 19 years! As of this year, relationships, sex and health education will be compulsory subjects in all secondary schools.
“Education has obviously been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, and so it’s really important that young people engage with this year’s Sexual Health Week.
“The representatives from Spectra and METRO hosting the webinar are experts in their field - the webinar will be extremely informative and engaging for all those who attend.
“There should be no stigma attached to wanting to learn more about Relationships and Sex Education, so please do sign up.”
