Release Date: 15 July 2020
As schools gear up for the summer holidays and look forward to a well-earned break, Richmond Council has written to all teachers and school staff to thank them for their efforts during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Cllr Penny Frost, Chair of the Education and Children's Services Committee, said:
"As we come to the end of the summer term, following four months of challenging circumstances, we wanted to thank all our teachers and school staff for their continued superb response to the COVID-19 crisis.
"Since the announcement of the lockdown, schools have supported thousands of children and young people through hundreds of hours of online learning and physical resource packs, they have provided ongoing provision for vulnerable pupils and the children of key workers, and they have prepared schools to welcome back certain year groups.
"We also recognise that throughout the pandemic our teachers and school support staff have had to manage their own concerns and anxieties about their exposure to
greater risk than other professions.
"Their momentous effort during this crisis is appreciated. And I hope that all school staff manage to have a relaxing, and well deserved, summer break."
