Release Date: 20 July 2020
Online booking is now in place at Townmead Road, Household Waste and Recycling Centre operational from today (20 July), with allocated appointments being fully booked through until 26 July. Drivers are asked not to come to the centre without an appointment as they will be turned away.
Since the centre reopened when lockdown measures were eased, a significant number of visitors have been to the site. Due to the reduced capacity available, as a result of social distancing measures, queue times to the site have regularly reached two hours.
The new online booking system will reduce the queues and will continue to improve health and safety controls on site to keep residents and staff safe. However, to ensure that everyone with an appointment can access the site during their appointed slot, residents are asked not to arrive too early for their appointment and not come to the site if you haven’t booked.
Appointments are available up to two weeks in advance.
Cllr Julia Neden-Watts, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, said:
“We recognise how much residents value the service at Townmead and its role in promoting recycling and managing waste. However, the level of demand we are currently seeing cannot be accommodated with social distancing and safe working requirements without long delays, and therefore we need to bring in more significant changes.
“I thank residents for their support around the measures which the Council has taken to date and look forward to their continued support to ensure the booking arrangements we are putting in place operate successfully.”
