Motorcyclists will soon be able to use all the bus lanes across Richmond upon Thames following a decision by Richmond Council made as part of a wider bus lane review that is supported by Transport for London (TfL).
The decision comes after an eighteen month trial was undertaken in two bus lanes in the borough: at Eton Street/Paradise Road in Richmond, and at London Road in Twickenham.
Cllr Peter Buckwell, Cabinet member for Highways and Street Scene, said:
“These changes are being made following a successful trial period and will bring the borough in line with other neighbouring boroughs which have already made the change.
“The benefits of the change have been seen at the two locations where motorcycles in bus lanes have been trialed.
“We believe the changes will reduce confusion for road users, and reduce the risk of collisions as riders will no longer travel through west London and not know whether they are permitted to ride in a bus lane or not. For pedestrians and other road users the position will also be clear. Ultimately this will make the roads safer for everyone who uses them.”
