Team Richmond finished the first weekend of the London Youth Games in a very promising 6th place, with a number of outstanding performances at the recent Cross Country competition.
A squad of forty-five runners traveled to Hampstead Heath last weekend to compete against 32 other teams, with the girls’ team finishing 7th and the boys’ 9th in challenging conditions
The squad consisted of runners from twenty different schools within the borough in the under-11, under-13, under-15, and under-17 categories. Highlights of the racing included an individual bronze medal for Sonny Maund from Orleans Park School in the under-13 boys’ race and a team bronze medal for the under-17 girls, with a number of fantastic individual performances.
Cllr David Linnette, Cabinet member for Culture, Sport and the Voluntary Sector said:
“I’d like to congratulate all the athletes who took part in these races and in what has been a very promising start for Team Richmond. I look forward to hearing how the team gets on in the next series of events.”
The young athletes will next be in action in the New Year, when the boys and girls cricket qualifiers take place at Harrow Leisure Centre in January.
