Local remembrance service for victims of Manchester tragedy

Release Date: 25 May 2017

Residents are invited to a service of prayer and remembrance this Sunday for the victims of the Manchester tragedy.

The Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Cllr Lisa Blakemore, will be joining Revd. Jeffery Hopkin Williams at St Mary’s Church, Church Street in Twickenham this Sunday at 9.30am. Candles will be lit at the service for each life lost in the attack.

Cllr Blakemore said:

“Words cannot describe the absolute shock and devastation I felt as the horrific news unfolded of terrorism perpetrated on innocent children and families in Manchester. The theme of my Mayoral year is about compassion and tolerance in communities with a special focus on our children. This barbaric act reflects the absolute opposite intention and is utterly intolerable in any decent world.

“My thoughts are with the families of those who have lost someone or have been injured in this vile act of terror. My chaplain in this coming year is Reverend Hopkins-Williams and I will be attending this special service on Sunday. I hope that many people will join us on Sunday morning and light a candle to remember those who died, lost loved ones or were injured.”
