The Book Jungle is officially open at Kew Riverside Primary School which was marked by a swinging visit by Richmond’s Mayor.
Staff, parents and children posed for a picture with Cllr David Linnette at the official opening of the new school library on Friday. More than 100 guests including parents and families showed their support and came along to the grand opening and dived into some ‘book-themed’ refreshments.
The Book Jungle was named by a child from the school following an in-house competition. All of the artwork was done by a parent for free and the bookshelves put together by one of the parents. Other parents raised half the money for the new library and the school match funded the rest.
Richmond Mayor, Cllr David Linnette, said:
“It’s a delight to come along today and open this brand new library which is a wonderful new resource for the children of this school. It is vital to get primary school children interested in reading at the earliest possible stage which is why I know The Book Jungle will be a welcome new addition to this wonderful school.”
Darren Norman, Headteacher at Kew Riverside Primary School, added:
“I am delighted that so many people have come along today to help open our new library, ‘The Book Jungle’. The children are thrilled to have such a special resource, part-funded by their parents and I know that over time, the library will become an even more appealing space where children can be lost in our jungle and lost in a book.”
