Too hot and want a cooling swim? Check before you visit your outdoor pool

Release Date: 20 June 2017

As a result of the warm weather and high demand for a cooling dip, residents are encouraged to check the website or social media before visiting Pools on the Park to ensure that the outdoor pool has not reached its bather capacity level.

To ensure the comfort, enjoyment and most importantly safety of everyone that uses the facilities, the Council has to maintain a safe capacity limit. With the hot weather, the outdoor and indoor swimming pools at Pools on the Park have been very busy.

There is also currently a high demand for the ongoing term-time programme of swimming lessons, school swimming lessons, fitness classes and gym use.

Therefore, if the capacity is reached, the Pool facilities may close to additional customers at short notice.

To avoid disappointment, the Council encourages anyone looking for an outdoor swim to double check online before arriving at the centre.

Cllr Meena Bond, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Sports, said:

“The safety of all our customers is of paramount importance. Therefore, we must ensure that our sporting facilities, including the outdoor pools adopt safer operating practices, including capacity limits. To do otherwise would be irresponsible.

“Therefore, to avoid disappointment, remember to check online or follow @poolsonthepark on Twitter.”

The outdoor grounds are scheduled to open on 26 June as advertised.
