Volunteering has never been more fun with the Goodgym, a local charity which combines physical tasks with running - so sign-up today.
Get the feel-good factor of helping your local community, get into shape and meet like-minded people as a Goodgym member. The unique local charity builds community cohesion, promotes fitness and reduces social isolation.
Instead of running nowhere on treadmills or lifting weights in a gym that don't need lifting - Goodgym members run and lift for the good of others. Some runners stop off at the homes of lonely and isolated residents as part of their weekly routines.
The charity was able to set-up in Richmond thanks to Richmond Council's Civic Pride Fund which awarded the charity £5k so it could be launched in the borough in May. The Civic Pride Fund is available to individuals or groups who wish to organise a project or event to improve their local area and deliver more for their local communities. Grants of up to £5k are available to organisations and £1k for individuals.
Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Voluntary Sector, Cllr Susan Chappell, said:
“Join the Goodgym and make your weekly fitness routines beneficial to your fitness and the local community! If you’re a regular runner it only takes 15 minutes to change your routine and stop off at the home of someone who may feel lonely and isolated. If you’ve never considered running before or lack motivation the Goodgym is also a wonderful way to get into the habit.”
