NHS Direct provides confidential access to medical information, guidance and reassurance through a range of interactive services. These include an expert telephone advice line, self help guide, symptom checker and a useful A-Z health encyclopaedia on the website.

NHS Direct also provides telephone support for patients with long-term conditions, pre and post operative support for patients, access to GP and dental healthcare out of hours, and a professional response to public health scares.
