Older Persons' Freedom Passes
The Post Office issue all Older Persons' Freedom Passes for Richmond Borough residents.

From 6 April 2010 the eligibility age for the Freedom Pass is rising to meet the state pension age for women. This means the earliest date on which you can get a Freedom Pass will depend on when you were born and, if you were born on or after 6 April 1950 this date will be later than your 60th birthday. Entitlements
The Older Person’s freedom pass entitles pass holders to free travel on most of London’s transport services 24 hours a day. Entitlements are as follows:
- Free travel on London’s underground, buses, docklands light railway and trams at all times.
- Free travel on the following London Overground networks 24 hours a day:
- Stratford to Richmond;
- Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction;
- Euston to Watford Junction and
- Gospel Oak to Barking.
Restricted travel will remain on the following:
- Free travel on local bus services in England outside London between 9.30am and 11.00pm Monday to Fridays and all day at weekends and on public holidays.
- Free travel on National Rail in standard accommodation on most local rail services will remain between 9.30 am and 4.30am the following morning, Mondays to Fridays plus all day at weekends and on public holidays.
How to apply for a new Older Persons’ Freedom Pass
Application forms and passes are available from Post Offices in all London boroughs, except in Barking & Dagenham, Bromley, Havering, Sutton and Wandsworth.
Applicants must show proof of name and age; proof of permanent residency in the borough; have one recent passport size photo.
You must bring one item from each of the following sections 1, 2 and one photo.
1 Proof of age/name:
- Current passport.
- Current Older Person’s Freedom pass.
- Medical card.
- Birth certificate (unless your name has changed).
- Pink driving licence (Paper or Photocard).
- Letter of pension entitlement.
2 i Proof of address (one of the following items with your name on):
- Current council tax bill/letter/ payment book.
- Current council/Housing Association rent book/statement/letter.
- Current television licence.
or
2 ii (one of the following items with your name on, dated within the last 3 months)
The following items must be dated within the last 3 months and in your name:
- Residential utility bill (excluding mobile phone bills).
- Residential bank or building society statement.
- HM Revenues and customs letter.
- Department for Work and Pensions letter.
- Occupational pension letter.
- Residential credit card statement.
3 Photographs
- One recent passport size photograph.

Replacing passes
Replacing lost, stolen, faulty or damaged new style passes
Do not go back to the Post Office. Instead contact our helpline number on 0208 831 6312 and a replacement pass will be sent out to you within 5 working days subject to document approval.
If you find a pass you have previously lost, it will no longer work. Please send it to the following address:

FREEDOM PASS RETURNS (No stamp required).
You are not allowed to hold more than one concessionary pass at any one time. Only use the most recently obtained pass and return any others.
