If you are a birth relative of an adopted person

We can offer you support if you live in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and are a birth relative of an adopted person, even if the adoption took place elsewhere. We can also help you if your family member’s adoption was arranged by Richmond, even if you no longer live in the Borough.

If you would like to make contact with a birth relative who was adopted, and the adopted person in question is now over 18, we can offer you an Intermediary Service. We can also advise you on specialist counselling services for birth relatives.

Birth parents can also access a local support group run by the South West London Adoption Consortium, which gives birth parents the opportunity to meet each other in a supportive and non-judgemental environment.

For more information about what we can offer birth relatives, contact the Adoption and Permanency Team.
