Proposed new parliamentary boundaries

Information on how Richmond upon Thames’ two parliamentary constituencies could change as a result of the Boundary Commission’s review is available in the borough’s libraries.

It has been proposed that the Richmond Park constituency be replaced with a single Richmond and Twickenham seat. A new Teddington and Hanworth constituency could be created covering Whitton, Heathfield, the south of the borough and parts of Hounslow borough.

People are being asked by the Boundary Commission to comment on the proposals between now and 5 December. A complete copy of the plans relating to the whole of London can be studied at Richmond Reference Library or by appointment at the Council’s offices in Twickenham. Appointments can be made by calling electoral services on 020 8891 7196.

Summary documents on the proposals are available in the borough’s other libraries. Comments can then be made through the website or by writing to The Boundary Commission, 35 Great Smith Street, London, SW1P 3BQ

If approved by Parliament, the changes would take place at the next General Election in 2015.

Gillian Norton, Richmond Council’s chief executive and returning officer, said: “These are important proposals. I would urge people to take time to read the documents so they understand how they are potentially affected and can make their comments to the Commission.”
