A member of the public with a background in ethical issues or knowledge of local government is being sought by Richmond Council to sit on its Standards Committee.
A vacancy has arisen for a new independent member to sit on the Committee alongside the five existing Councillor members, and to be one of six independent members. The committee is responsible for promoting and developing high standards and dealing with issues of alleged misconduct or breaches of the Members’ Code of Conduct.
The position is voluntary with a small allowance and the committee meets four to five times a year with further sub committee meetings.
Applicants must be independent of the Council and of political parties, and while a background in related fields would be useful, it is not essential. Current and recently retired councillors and officers are not eligible, neither are people related to members or staff.
