Two people who have found work through Power Employment, a service run by Richmond Council to find employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities, have recently received employee awards.
Jeremy Freer, from Teddington, received the employee of the month award from Ecovert FM Services at West Middlesex Hospital where he is a medical records porter, while Martin Jordan from Hampton, won the ABCD award (above and beyond the call of duty) for his work at Asda in Hounslow.
Martin, who has worked at Asda for two years, said:
“I enjoy my job at Asda, although there are busy and difficult days I have good colleagues around me. Power Employment supports me to overcome any problems, which has helped me continue in my job. I am very proud of my Award and thank everyone who voted for me”.
Cathy Kerr, Director of Adult and Community Services on Richmond Council, added:
“My congratulations go to Jeremy and Martin, the awards recognize their dedication to their roles and are fully deserved.
“Power Employment is a fantastic service and continues to go from strength to strength. We currently have over 100 people on our books and are always looking for more local businesses to get involved and offer opportunities. These awards show that not only people with learning disabilities are fully capable of working, but that they can also excel and be an example to others.”
Power Employment arranges a variety of voluntary, part-time and full-time employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities living in the borough. It provides support to employers as well as the employees being placed.
