Richmond Council is to raise the Armed Forces Day Flag at 10.30am on 22 June and fly it until 27 June when the new national Armed Forces Day is being celebrated.
Chief Executive of Richmond Council, Gillian Norton, said: “The first ever Armed Forces Day is being held on 27 June 2009, and is an opportunity for the nation to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families and veterans.
In Richmond upon Thames we have decided to raise the flag on the Monday morning and keep it flying for the week leading up to the national day on Saturday 27 June as a mark of respect and to remind residents and visitors to our borough of the fantastic and selfless contribution that the men and women of our forces make to our nation.”
