New guidelines on the design of shopfronts across the borough have been published by Richmond Council, and officers are now asking residents and businesses for their views.
The character and appearance of the borough’s town centres can be greatly affected by changes to shopping parades and signage. The Shopfront Design Guide aims to ensure shopfronts of architectural merit are kept and it also promotes good design to retailers renewing their frontages or opening new businesses.
The guide can be read online by following the links under the news and events section on our planning pages. People are welcome to comment on whether they agree with details of the policy until Friday 22 May.
Philip Wealthy, Head of Planning Policy and Design at the Council, said: “We want to help retailers get the most out of their businesses while at the same time protecting the essential character of our town centres.”
