Over 300 community minded residents have already shown their keenness to get involved locally by signing up to volunteer through Richmond Council’s new local volunteering scheme.
The Volunteering Richmond programme has kicked off its introductory tour of the borough this month with a launch in Richmond Lending Library, followed up with a meet and greet session in the Council’s Civic Centre, with many more local events to follow.
Cllr Pamela Fleming, Strategic Cabinet Member for Community Business and Culture said: “Our aim is to make it easy for people to get involved in volunteering at a very local level. Volunteering Richmond will work closely with the voluntary sector to offer people roles that interest them and that are suitable. We have a thriving voluntary sector in the borough and community minded residents which is an excellent mix.
“There are so many different opportunities to get involved in from gardening projects, helping out at events to spending time with senior residents who may just need a friend to talk to – there are many more options depending on the time you have to spare. I would encourage both businesses and local people to get in touch with Volunteering Richmond or attend one of their drop-in sessions to sign up and see how they can help you help others.”
Carla Diego-Franceskides of Volunteering Richmond said, “We have been really impressed by the level of interest in Richmond from both businesses and residents for getting involved in volunteering and giving back to the community. There is a really genuine desire to get involved.
“We have over 300 organisations signed up and 120 opportunities available right now. We will be in your area soon so please do come and join in and let us know what kind of volunteering you would like to try. Otherwise you can sign up online or call us to register, we are here to help you find where you fit in the volunteering world.”
