Summer Splash 2025

Our Summer Splash programme will return this summer, providing crash courses to children in school years 5, 6 and 7 who are unable to swim to a level expected for their age.

Swim crash courses

Crash courses will be available at Pools on the Park and Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre

Courses are for children in school years 5, 6 and 7, who have not attained the KS2 requirement to swim 25 metres confidently and perform safe self-rescue.

To be eligible for the swim crash courses children must either live or go to school in the London Borough of Richmond.

Swim stages

Swim crash courses are for children between swim stages 1 and 5. Each stage relates to the child's ability at the start of the course.

  • Stage 1 – Suitable for children who are non-swimmers.
  • Stage 2 – Children should be able to swim 3m on their front with their face in the water unaided
  • Stage 3 – Children should be able to swim 5m front crawl and 5m back crawl
  • Stage 4 – Children should be able to swim 10m front crawl and 10m back crawl
  • Stage 5 – Children should be able to swim 15m basic front crawl, 15m basic back crawl with an awareness of breaststroke and be confident in the main pool out of their depth

Pools on the Park

The five-day crash course at Pools on the Park will take place from Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August 2025 at the following times:

  • 8.30 to 9am - Stage 5
  • 9 to 9.30am - Stages 3 and 4
  • 9.30 to 10am - Stages 1 and 2

Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre

The five-day crash courses at Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre will take place from Monday 4 August to Friday 8 August 2025 and Monday 18 August to Friday 22 August 2025 at the following times:

  • 8.30 to 9am - Stages 1 and 2
  • 9 to 9.30am - Stages 3 and 4
  • 9.30 to 10am - Stage 5

Price

The five-day crash course costs £5 per person - that's just £1 per lesson!

How to apply

Summer Splash crash course applications can only be submitted online, from 8am on Monday 7 July until 5pm on Sunday 13 July 2025 only*. Any applications submitted outside of this period will automatically be deleted. 

*The application period may close early if demand becomes higher than place availability.

Applications will be processed by our Swim School team after the closing date and places will then be allocated based on eligibility and class availability.

Successful applicants will be contacted directly between 14 and 20 July 2025. Those who are offered a place will then be required to make payment over the phone to secure their booking. 

We will try our best to advise unsuccessful applicants and those who do not meet the eligibility criteria that a place cannot be offered.

Prize draw

Participants who attend all five days and complete their crash course will then be entered into a prize draw, with the chance to win a 50% discounted bundle of 12 junior swimming lessons. The prize discount may be used to purchase lessons at either Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre or Pools on the Park (subject to availability).

This prize has no cash alternative and cannot be transferred or substituted.
