Sustainable Travel Accreditation and Recognised scheme (STAR)
The STAR scheme aims to ensure long term commitment to travel planning in schools. The scheme provides incentives and rewards for those who embrace travel planning and demonstrate achievements in their contribution to sustainable travel.
Three levels of accreditation are available, these include:
Recognises schools that demonstrate commitment to maintaining and implementing an up-to-date STP covering the following areas:
- Travel/transport issues
- Consultation with school community e.g. parents, governors and pupils
- Survey analysis
- Targets and action plan
- Monitoring and evaluation
Recognises schools that have reviewed and monitored the results of their STP and are now participating in higher levels of sustainable travel initiatives. Higher standards travel plans display achievement in the following areas:
- Securing funding grants
- Incorporating travel initiatives into curriculum
- Promoting the STP
Recognises schools that have gone the extra mile to ensure that sustainable travel is embedded into their school’s ethos and community and can demonstrate this with evidenced achievements. Schools recognised as ‘outstanding’ have met the criteria of ‘sustainable’ and ‘higher standards’, and are regularly reviewing and monitoring their travel plan. These schools are always looking to incorporate innovation in all facets of their travel plan.
