A £15,000 outdoor gym will be installed in North Sheen Recreation Ground thanks to partnership work between Richmond Council and local Friends Groups – plus a generous donation from the London Marathon Trust.
The Council is delighted to announce that the outdoor gym will be open by the Spring for everyone in the borough to enjoy. The funding is in addition to the Council’s annual budget to improve the borough’s parks and open spaces.
It has been possible thanks to our award-winning Park Team’s innovative Parks Improvement Programme. The programme brings the Council, local Friends Groups and stakeholders together to bring additional funding to the borough and maximise investment in parks. The funds raised are in addition to the Council’s annual Capital Programme for 2016/17.
Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Pamela Fleming, said:
“This is great news for the borough and a testimony to the hard work our parks team puts into developing close working relationships with local Friends Groups. North Sheen Recreation Ground is a wonderful place to relax or take a stroll – now visitors can enjoy a free work out.”
North Sheen Recreation is no stranger to improvements. In January last year a new children’s play area was installed and includes a 20metre zip wire, roundabout, twisters, a paddling pool and trampoline. As with the brand new outdoor gym, the play area was made possible thanks to the Council’s Parks Improvement Programme and close partnership work with local Friends Groups and local stakeholders.
