Support for adoptees

If you are an adopted adult living in the borough

The adoption team offer a confidential information, advice and counselling service to adopted adults (over the age of 18 years) who are interested in finding out more about their birth history. We can help you gain access to your records or, if you are interested in making contact with your birth family, we also offer an intermediary service. Contact us for more information on what we can offer.

Support for your adopted child

If your adopted child would like to speak to someone about being adopted, there is plenty of support out there for them:

  • They can contact an adoption team social worker, who will supply advice and guidance as appropriate.
  • After Adoption is a national charity who runs a free confidential helpline run for adopted children and young people.
  • If you have adopted a child or young person under the age of 18 years, and you live in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, then contact us to find out when our next event is for adopted children. We organise lots of events for adoptive families, including children's groups where they can meet other adopted children and an annual Fun Day for all the family.
