How to book

Swimming lesson criteria

Please ensure your child meets the individual class entry requirements below. If you wish to discuss whether a lesson is suitable for your child, please call the centre on 020 3772 2999.

Entry requirements
Class name Age Minimum required standard
 Pre-school beginners  3-5 years Suitable for children who are non-swimmers and require buoyancy aids. Children are accompanied into the water by swimming teachers.
 Pre-school improvers  3-5 years Children should be able to swim 3m on their front with face in the water without buoyancy aids. Children are accompanied into the water by the swimming teachers.
Pre-school advanced  3-5 years Children should be able to swim 5m front paddle and 5m back paddle without buoyancy aids. Children are accompanied into the water by swimming teachers.
S1 (Stage 1) in Learner Pool  5+ years For children who are non-swimmers.
S2 (Stage 2) in Learner Pool  5+ years Children should be able to swim 3m on their front with their face in the water unaided.
S3 (Stage 3) in Learner Pool  5+ years Children should be able to swim 5m front crawl and 5m back crawl.
S4 (Stage 4) in Learner Pool 5+ years  Children should be able to swim 10m front crawl and 10m back crawl.
S5 (Stage 5) in Main Pool  5+ years Children should be able to swim 15m basic front crawl, 15m basic back crawl or have an awareness of breaststroke and be confident in the main pool out of
their depth.
S6 (Stage 6) in Main Pool  5+ years

Children should be able to swim 25m basic front crawl, 25m basic back crawl and 15m basic breaststroke.

S7 (stage 7) in Main Pool 5+ years Children should be able to swim 25m front crawl and back crawl with good technique and 25m basic breaststroke with an awareness of butterfly.
S8 (stage 8) in Main Pool 5+ years Children should be able to swim 200m and have good technique on front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke and basic butterfly.
S9 (stage 9) in Main Pool 5+ years Children should be able to swim 600m and have good technique on front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke and basic butterfly.
S10 (stage 10) in Main Pool 5+ years Children should be able to swim 800m in under 25 minutes and have correct technique on front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke and good technique on butterfly.
Swim Fitness Junior 8-12 years Pupils should be Stage 9 or above standard.
Swim Fitness Teen 12+ years Pupils should be Stage 9 or above standard.
Rookie Lifeguard 8+ years Pupils should be Stage 8 or above standard.
Diving 8+ years Pupils should be able to swim 25m all strokes.

How to book

A booking form (pdf, 190 KB) must be completed and returned in person with payment (cheques payable to LBRUT) to Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre, Vicarage Road, Teddington TW11 8EZ.

RC/Non RC - This indicates the price with and without a Richmond Card with leisure membership (find out more about using the Richmond Card for leisure)
