In Bloom competitions

There are several In Bloom competitions, both locally and nationally. Entrants can be individuals, groups, or the whole borough.

Richmond in Bloom

Richmond Borough in Bloom is a local, borough-wide competition, which has been running successfully for over twenty years.

The success of Richmond in local and national competitions is thanks to the help of volunteers working in partnership with the Council.

If you are a local resident or business and think your garden or frontage is prize-worthy then get in touch with Richmond Borough in Bloom. Some of the winners from this local competition will contribute to the London in Bloom campaign.

London in Bloom

London in Bloom is a campaign and competition where boroughs, communities, residents and businesses can work together to improve the environment of London, making it a greener, cleaner place to live, work and visit.

2016 saw Richmond awarded Gold in the City Category and for Terrace Gardens and York House Gardens. Richmond Council was winner of the Biodiversity Award and Twickenham Village & Barnes Village were awarded Silver Gilts for their independent entries.

RHS Britain in Bloom 2013

The Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Britain in Bloom competition has been going since 1963. Success from local and regional in bloom competitions determines which villages, towns or cities are entered into the national competition. Judging criteria is not just about floral displays but also involves horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.

In 2013 Richmond won Gold and became joint City winners of Britain. In addition, Richmond won the discretionary award for sustainable landscaping for Diamond Jubilee Gardens on Twickenham Riverside.

Communities in Bloom 2014

After winning Britain in Bloom in 2013, Richmond was invited to participate in the international competition Communities in Bloom. This Canadian-based not-for-profit programme is committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement, with focus on enhancing green spaces in communities.

In July, two judges from Canada visited and saw Richmond at its best in beautiful summer sunshine, taking in all parts of the borough over two days.

Richmond was announced as Winner of the International Challenge (medium category). A great achievement by all involved.
