The Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme in libraries

The Richmond Upon Thames Library Service volunteer program for students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is not taking any more applications at this time. Please continue to check this page for updates.

About the placement

As part of your placement at the library you would:

  • Learn more about how the library works, including learning about the DEWEY system
  • Help with shelving and generally keeping the library tidy
  • Help customers find books and use the self-service machines
  • Create a top 10 teen book display

Read the full role description (pdf, 327 KB).

You would also take part in two other library activities such as helping with a special event, assisting with Story Time or taking part in Chatterbooks, a children’s reading group. You could even come up with your own event or activity to take place in the library.

Please note that in order to be eligible for a placement you must live or study in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Please note that we are only able to offer volunteer placements for students completing the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

How to take part

If you are interested in taking part complete the Duke of Edinburgh application form (pdf, 173 KB). You will also need to supply a letter of permission from your school or group.

Return your digitally completed application form and letter of permission via email to the Volunteer Coordinator at libraryvolunteer@richmond.gov.uk.
