Tours around the Old Town Hall and the Poppy Factory as part of the Know Your Place heritage festival.
As part of Know Your Place and Open House London, Richmond’s Old Town Hall is revealing its secrets in this behind-the-scenes guided tour. Opened in 1893 as a headquarters for the newly formed Richmond Council, this elegant building now houses the borough’s archives, Local Studies and Reference libraries, the Museum of Richmond, and the Riverside Art Gallery.
There is no lift to the archives in the Old Town Hall access is only by a narrow set of stairs, therefore we regret that it is not suitable for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
Enjoy a fascinating presentation and introductory film about the Factory and its history and then visit the ‘shop floor’, giving you the opportunity to meet some of our colleagues and see how poppies and wreaths are made. A selection of souvenirs including Poppy Factory china is available to purchase from our shop at the end of the tour.
