Our food safety responsibilities

We aim to protect consumers in the Borough from food poisoning and from contaminated and unfit food.

In particular the Food and Safety team:

• Inspects local food businesses to enforce hygiene standards
• Investigates complaints about hygiene or contaminated foods
• Checks food labelling, descriptions and claims
• Sample foods to test the quality and safety
• Investigate infectious diseases
