We have a duty under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 to co-ordinate flood risk management within the borough to ensure that flood risks from surface water runoff, groundwater, smaller watercourses and ditches are identified and managed.

We are required by law to have a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy in place to set out how this will be achieved.

The production of the strategy provides the opportunity to consolidate existing flooding evidence into a single document, clearly setting out how flood risk will be managed across Richmond in the future by different stakeholders. It should provide clear advice to residents, businesses and developers on how that will be achieved.

The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy was updated in 2023 following public consultation and approval by the Environment Committee.
