Art & Soul is a member-led organisation based at Orleans House Gallery, which celebrates mental and emotional wellbeing through the arts.
Established in the mid-nineties as 'We Can Draw', Art & Soul has developed over the last decade to become one of the key visual arts expressive bi-annual exhibitions in London.
Through workshops and outreach work, Art and Soul aims to provide a positive framework in which people with mental health issues can express themselves, develop new skills and make a positive contribution.
Sessions take place on Mondays at 10.30am in the Coach House, Orleans House Gallery. Places are on referral only.
To attend please call the gallery on 020 8831 6000, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
Supported by Awards for All, Richmond Parish Lands and Hampton Fuel Allotment.
Our most recent project Flow of Life explored the ups and downs faced by everyone as they go through life. Through art workshops and outreach work at Springfield Hospital and Richmond Royal, members and participants worked in a variety of media which was then bought together in a diverse and insightful exhibition.
Our 2015 project Art & Soul: Express Yourself! was funded by Time to Change, England’s biggest programme to end the stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental health problems. The programme is run by the charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, and funded by the Department of Health, Comic Relief and the Big Lottery Fund.
In addition to delivering workshops which take an evidence-based approach to wellbeing through creative activity, highlight self-efficacy and support flow, this grant has given Art & Soul the opportunity to take a proactive role in raising awareness and challenging perceptions of mental health stigma within the general public.

Art & Soul projects have attracted large numbers of participants from a range of centres based in and around the borough of Richmond upon Thames. Feedback from previous exhibitions/events demonstrates how successful the project can be at engaging people with mental health issues and encouraging rehabilitation through active participation.
This positive experience has given many people a needed boost in self-confidence and self worth during difficult periods in their lives.
