Advanced Search Help
If you prefer to search using specific parameters; search a specific month or a particular document, our advanced search form provides you with a more powerful way of finding information on our website.
Search text
There are 3 options when providing search text.:
- Search for "the words" - Enter any words that you want to include in your search.
- Search for "the phrase" - Enter a phrase exactly as you want to it to be found. For example “car parks in richmond”.
- Search for "the name" - Enter a persons name.
Location of matches
You can specifiy which part of a web page you want to search. The options are:
- In the page body – Covers all content that is visible when you browse a web page.
- In the title – The title is the name of the page. You can normally see a pages title in the top bar of your browser window.
- In the url – Find matches that are in a web pages url. For example business will match www.richmond.gov.uk/business
- In image alt text – All images on our web site have alternate text describing the image.
- In the description – Each page has a description providing an introduction/summary of the information provided by the page.
- In the keywords – Each page has a list of associated keywords relating to the content of the page.
Date options
You can specifiy the dates of web pages that you want your search to return.
- Anytime – Use this if you want all documents no matter what their date.
- In the - Select the period that you want your search to go back to.
- On or after – Provide a start and end date and search for pages between these two.
Result display
You can change the way your search results are displayed.
- Results per page - Show between 10 and 500 hundred results per page
- Sorting - Sort by search relevance or title or give the pages date more importance by scoringing by date.
- Summaries - Show or hide these.
