A new £1.8m Learning Resource Centre at Hampton Community College will be officially unveiled next week.

The centre will comprise a state-of-the-art library plus three new ICT suites and will be opened on Wednesday 9 July (5.30pm).

The scheme has been funded by Richmond Council as part of its ongoing secondary school capital investment programme, with the school paying for the ICT equipment and furniture.

Building work began in February 2007 and was completed in May this year.

Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, Cllr Malcolm Eady, said:

“This superb scheme is part of our continuing schools capital investment programme. It provides spacious and accessible state-of-the-art learning areas for use by the school and the wider community.

“It also provides a much-needed new entrance for pupils, creating a safe and welcoming access point. We are delighted with the outcome of the project.”

The Headteacher at Hampton Community College, Dr Sue Demont, added:

“Our students are very excited about working in the LRC. They can’t wait to use the new library and the excellent ICT facilities, with over 100 new computers.

“The building is really stylish and will provide Hampton with a much-needed landmark as well as excellent community facilities.”
