Background to the electric vehicle charging points scheme
Plug in and go green
“With fuel prices rising and “green” electric motor technology improving, we hope that drivers will consider investing in electric vehicles as a way to save money as well as reducing their impact on the environment”. - Cllr David Trigg, Cabinet Member for Traffic, Transport and Parking
Road transport is the third largest source of UK greenhouse gas emissions. Electric vehicles produce zero exhaust emissions and therefore do not contribute to the high levels of air pollution we have in London.
Travelling by public transport would always be encouraged but it is not always practical or convenient.
Electric vehicles offer a lower emission alternative.
A partnership project
Richmond is delivering electric vehicle charging points through a project being led by SWELTRAC (South and West London Transport Conference) a partnership of 10 London boroughs and being supported by Transport for London, the Energy Saving Trust, EDF Energy and Elektromotive. The project will see the installation a number of Elektrobay electric vehicle charging points across the south and west London sub-region.
