Suggestions and requests
Community groups and residents provide a valuable source of information and ideas on how the borough can improve its Street Scene, Transport Planning and Parking provision.
To help you provide feedback and make suggestions, guidance has been produced for each area. It should be highlighted that the Council does not have unlimited resources to investigate each and every suggestion/request, but does try and respond where residents/community groups can demonstrate that over half of the road/area directly affected are in favour of an idea.
Parking
The council does not normally promote any new Community Parking Zones.
There is a current programme of reviewing yellow lines/parking restrictions in the main shopping areas of the borough. Suggestions are particularly welcomed from residents regarding this work which is aimed to be completed by April 2012.
Traffic calming and speed limits
We sometimes receive requests from residents for a 20mph zone or 20mph speed limits on their road. Currently our guidance states that the average speed on the road must be at or around 20mph in order to consider the request.
The speed of a vehicle must be lowered using physical measures in a 20mph zone so it becomes self-enforceable (for example road humps, or carriageway narrowing). Residents should be aware that these physical measures may affect parking availability on the road.
The main focus in creating a 20mph speed limit or zone, are the improvements to road safety and other environmental benefits.
Traffic signals
All traffic signals in London are installed and maintained by Transport for London (TfL) and if any signals are not working properly then they can be reported online on the TfL website.
The borough would be interested to hear of any sets of signals that residents feel may need retiming or indeed removing. These can then be passed on to TfL for comments if appropriate.
Street Scene
Reporting a street scene issue can easily be done online and it will be directed to the appropriate team for attention.
General comments
Please note that while comments will be reviewed by the Highways and Transport team, it may not always be possible to investigate each suggestion. The team will usually concentrate on requests that have a majority support of residents.
