Release Date: 09/05/2008
Work by deaf and disabled artists is the focus of a new show at Richmond Council’s refurbished Stables Gallery in Twickenham.
Paintings, drawings and photographs from a number of artists were originally shown at ICI headquarters in London’s West End. The exhibition at Orleans House is the only time this stimulating show will be on public display.
London Disability Arts Forum: The ICI Collection, runs until 22 June and admission is free. All of the works are for sale.
Cllr John Coombs, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure on Richmond Council, said:
”For over a decade the Council’s Arts Service has showcased work by a range of creative people outside the artistic mainstream, including deaf and disabled artists.
“This inclusive approach is central to everything we do and runs through our exhibition programme and education work.
“The new show is superb and is the only time this work will be on public display.
“I urge people to visit and also take advantage of the new facilities at Orleans House Gallery, including the recently opened café.”
The restored stables block at Orleans House was officially opening last month by Margaret Hodge MP, Minister for Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism. The Heritage Lottery funded-project includes the refurbished Stables Gallery, the Coach House Education Centre, a café and an artist-in-residence workshop.
