High-achieving pupils from across the borough will be saluted at a special ceremony being held by Richmond Council next week.
The Richmond Borough Schools’ Celebration of Achievement Awards will be held at Twickenham Rugby Stadium on Tuesday July 8, starting 4.30pm.
The borough’s primary, secondary and special schools have put forward 80 pupils in recognition of outstanding achievement across a range of areas including sport, academic success and contribution to school life.
Service to the community and school attendance will also be recognised at the ceremony.
Outstanding achievers include a secondary school pupil who has been chosen as a Richmond Borough sports ambassador, a pupil at a special school who has made excellent academic and social progress, and a Romanian pupil with limited English who has made great strides due to his sheer determination.
The awards will be presented by the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Cllr Helen Lee-Parsons, in the stadium’s St George’s Suite.
The Mayor said:
“This annual event is an excellent opportunity to recognise superb achievements by many of the borough’s pupils, some of whom have had to cope with great personal difficulties including ill-health. I am delighted to present the awards to these outstanding young people.”
Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, Cllr Malcolm Eady, said:
“I’d like to congratulate all the award winners on their achievements. They simply inspire others to emulate their success and I am sure this will be only the first step towards an exciting and successful future for all these pupils.”
They will all receive certificates and gift vouchers provided by sponsors.
