Highway Land Searches
Introduction
A highway search may be performed when you are buying or selling a house in order to identify the adopted highway boundary (public/private extent) and roads proposals which may affect the value of the property.
As a local authority, Richmond Council maintains a Highways Land Search Register which lists the highways maintainable at public expense as well as the private roads within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
The register is available free of charge to all member of the public. If you would like to view it, please visit the Civic Centre Reception Desk.

The highway searches fees are currently assessed at £85, (from April 2013 to March 2014) as set in the Richmond Council’s Environment Directorate current Fees and Charges and reviewed annually by the Council.
